It is due to the innovation and creative sprit of all of the artists in Surface Tension that without their inspiration, this project could not have been realized. This exhibition and web-based catalogue would also not have been possible with out the tremendous support of the entire staff at the FWM. In particular I would like to acknowledge Aaron Igler whose unending creativity and optimism are largely responsible for the success of this entire project; Matthew Suib and Paul Swenbeck for their tireless dedication and resourcefulness in installing the exhibition; Mary Anne Friel for her energy and ingenuity as the project coordinator for Pete Rose’s FWM residency project; Blake Bradford, Meg Baird, Kathryn Van Voorhees and Julie Snyder for providing their support and keen attention to detail, Matt Jolly for his invaluable editorial insight and generosity; and Marion Boulton Stroud, Douglas Bohr, and Ellen Napier for their unwavering encouragement, wisdom and confidence that enabled me to pursue this project in the first place. Special thanks also go to the lenders to the exhibition, particularly Metro Pictures Gallery and the Whitney Museum of American Art. I would also like to acknowledge Paula Marincola and the Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative for making possible this incredibly valuable fellowship experience.

The Curatorial Fellowship is a project of the Philadelphia Exhibitions Intiative, a program funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by The University of the Arts, Philadelphia.
