Associate Director
The Fabric Workshop and Museum, an internationally-acclaimed contemporary art museum in Center City Philadelphia, seeks an Associate Director to work as a chief component of the executive curatorial and management team, which oversees the museum's
- innovative artist-in-residence program,
- 8 to 10 annual onsite and traveling exhibitions and video programs,
- permanent collection (6000 objects),
- award-winning publications,
- educational and public programs,
- and all administrative and operational activities of the museum.
The museum has a 28 year history of convening well-known and emerging artists from around the world, including Louise Bourgeois, Doug Aitken, Chris Burden, Jorge Pardo, Kara Walker, Claes Oldenburg, Lee Bul, Louise Nevelson, Matthew Ritchie, Roy Lichtenstein, Do-Ho Suh, Robert Morris, and many more.
The Associate Director, working under the supervision of the Director and the Artistic Director, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of collections management, publications, Board relations, development (including grant writing and a major gifts program), touring exhibitions, public relations, and institutional planning.
Applicants must have experience managing staff, demonstrated fundraising abilities, and a minimum of 5 years experience in major contemporary art museums or non-profits. M.A. and/or M.B.A. strongly preferred. Exemplary writing and communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Gallery Guide (part time)
The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM), dedicated to creating and exhibiting new work by contemporary artists, seeks part-time Gallery Guides. Ideal for students seeking job experience at one of the world's foremost contemporary art institutions, the Gallery Guide position provides an important service to FWM by greeting visitors and providing general information about the museum and its programs as well as tours of temporary exhibitions and the print studio. Gallery Guides have the dual role of serving as gallery attendant assuring the safety of the works of art while visitors are in the galleries. The position also requires that candidates assist with front desk and museum shop administrative duties and provide general assistance to FWM staff especially in the areas of public relations and development. A background in Art Education, Art History or Museum Studies preferred. Candidates should be articulate, flexible, outgoing, and work well with others.
